| Editorial John has worked as a newspaper photographer since 2003. In 2005 he became Head of Pictures at Centre Press, the independent Scottish press agency. The staff in his department had nominations in the Scottish Press Photographers Awards in 2006 and 2007. Since going freelance John has worked on many stories of both national and international importance for newspapers. Highlights have included being accredited inside the VIP area at the garden of Holyrood House for 2010's Papal visit, having walked an 18 mile trek (over a mountain!) for a pint in Britain's most remote pub, and spending a week with the people of the remote Island of Muck as they looked for a new resident. PR John has a wealth of experience of getting pictures into the national press, and has been employed by companies on many occasions to do so. Easyjet, Warburtons and BAE Systems are some of his most recent return clients. Commercial Often clients need images for other purposes - in house editorial, brochures, websites, that sort of use. So when Land Securities needed an arial photograph to show how close their new out of town shopping centre was to Edinburgh, their MD went up in a helicopter with John, and they got an image that helped secure 6 figure contracts from companies happy to locate branches of their stores with them. Similar work has been undertaken for the Scottish Music Centre, WWF and LA Group. Between 2005 and 2007John was contracted to take a series of images fof the Scottish Rugby Union's marketing team during Six Nations and Autumn Test series. Private Commissions Occasionally John will accept some personal portraiture and event photography commissions. These tend to be from people who have experienced his editorial style of photography professionally and would like to bring it into their homes.
